Tmt.Kausalya Govindarajan was born on 09.02.1923 in Ranipet, North Arcot District. She studied in Wallajapet & later in Govt Girls High School in Vellore. She completed her intermediate at Voorhee’s College in Vellore and B.A., Mathematics at Women’s Christian College, Chennai. She completed her teachers training at Lady Willington Teachers’ college in Chennai.
She married Dr.S.Govindarajan in the year 1947. Dr.S.Govindarajan retired as Controller of Examinations, University of Madras. She went to United Kingdom along with her husband and did Diploma in Home Science.
Tmt.Kausalya Govindarajan started her career as a teacher in Vellore Girls High School and then in Coimbatore Girls High School. In 1947 she continued her service in Presidency Girls High School & later became its Headmistress. She was promoted as the Inspectress of Girls Schools in 1968 & was promoted to the post of the Chief Educational Officer, Chennai in 1972. She was promoted as Deputy Director of School Education which post she held from 1975 to 1978.
After the demise of her husband on 24th May 1986 she donated her only property to the Venkatesapuram Tarapore Educational Trust (VTET) with a request to start a Matriculation School in the name of her beloved husband Dr.Salai Govindarajan. Dr.Salai Govindarajan Girls Matric High School which until today stands as living monument in memory of the Philanthropic Couple. Tmt.Kausalya Govindarajan was also the member of the VTET from 1977 to 2013. The School has achieved 100% pass in Public Examination from the date of its inception under the guidance of Tmt.Kausalya Govindarajan till her demise and continues its glory of 100% pass till the present academic year 2021 – 2022.
This year we celebrate her centenary and rededicate ourselves to the cause of Girls Education which was the dream of Tmt.Kausalya Govindarajan.
